The temporal sensitivity to the tactile-induced double flash illusion mediates the impact of beta oscillations on schizotypal personality traits

The coherent experience of the self and world depends on ability to integrate vs. segregate sensory information. Optimal temporal integration between senses is mediated by oscillatory properties neural activity. Previous research showed reduced sensitivity multisensory events in schizotypy, a personality trait linked schizophrenia. Here we used tactile-induced Double-Flash-Illusion (tDFI) investigate tactile-to-visual as indexed window illusion (TWI) its underpinnings. We measured EEG oscillations within beta band, recently shown correlate with tDFI. found individuals higher schizotypal traits have wider TWI slower waves accounting for which they perceive illusion. Our results indicate mediate effect slowed activity traits. conclude that patterns might constitute an early marker psychosis proneness.
